Newcastle United have reportedly begun identifying potential replacements for Sandro Tonali ahead of the summer transfer window, with Lamine Camara emerging as a key target.
According to recent reports, the Magpies have been closely monitoring the AS Monaco midfielder as uncertainty continues to surround Tonali’s long-term future on Tyneside. While the Italian international remains an important part of Eddie Howe’s squad, speculation about a potential move away from the club has prompted Newcastle to begin exploring contingency options.

A Different Style to Tonali
Although Camara operates in midfield like Tonali, the two players offer slightly different qualities. Camara is considered more of a traditional defensive midfielder, tasked with breaking up opposition attacks and distributing possession quickly to more advanced teammates.
His ability to contribute going forward has also been evident. Last season, the Monaco star recorded two goals and seven assists in the league, highlighting his capability to influence matches in the final third as well.
Camara’s experience at the highest level is also growing rapidly, having already made close to 80 appearances in Ligue 1 and several outings in the UEFA Champions League.

Newcastle may not have a clear path to signing the talented midfielder, however. Reports indicate that Liverpool are also keeping a close eye on Camara’s development, setting up the possibility of a transfer battle between the two Premier League clubs.
