UPDATE “Ipswich Town FC Surprises Fans with Exciting Stadium Sleepout at Portman Road – Don’t Miss Out!”

January 23, 2025

The Ipswich Town Foundation has announced an exciting and meaningful event that will bring fans together for a unique experience, while also raising vital funds for two important charities. On the evening of Friday, March 21, 2025, Ipswich Town fans will have the chance to participate in a Stadium Sleepout at the iconic Portman Road, the home ground of Ipswich Town FC. This event, which aims to raise awareness of homelessness in Suffolk and provide support to those who need it most, is the first of its kind to partner with Emmaus Suffolk, a local charity dedicated to helping vulnerable individuals facing homelessness.

The Stadium Sleepout is not a new concept at Portman Road, as the first sleepout event took place in 2015. However, this year marks a new and exciting chapter, with the Ipswich Town Foundation joining forces with Emmaus Suffolk to broaden the impact of the event. The Ipswich Town Foundation, although focused on supporting the local community in various ways, had previously identified homelessness as an area where they could do more. By partnering with Emmaus Suffolk, the Foundation aims to directly support people who are facing or at risk of homelessness, ensuring that those who need assistance the most are not overlooked.

Participants in the event will pay £30 for a ticket, with each individual setting a fundraising target of £250. The funds raised will be split equally between the Ipswich Town Foundation and Emmaus Suffolk. Emmaus Suffolk has been a crucial part of the local community, working to provide long-term solutions for vulnerable people, and last year alone, they supported 326 people and assisted with 279 wellbeing-related issues. This partnership with Ipswich Town Foundation will further strengthen their efforts and provide essential resources for people who are experiencing homelessness.

Sarah Dooley, the head of business and operations at the Ipswich Town Foundation, expressed her excitement about the partnership: “We are delighted to be working in association with Emmaus Suffolk to host our first stadium sleepout at Portman Road. All funds raised will be split evenly between the two charities, enabling Emmaus Suffolk to continue supporting vulnerable and isolated people facing homelessness in Suffolk. The Foundation will also explore opportunities to support those facing or at risk of homelessness, an area of the community we have not been able to offer support to previously.”

The event will not only provide a powerful opportunity to raise funds for a great cause but will also offer participants a memorable and potentially challenging experience. With 100 spaces available for fans, friends, families, and colleagues, the sleepout promises to be both educational and fun, while giving attendees a chance to experience the unpredictable British weather firsthand! Those who participate will sleep in the West Stand of Portman Road and will be treated to a special tour of the stadium. Hot food and refreshments will be available to ensure everyone is comfortable throughout the evening.

To further raise awareness of the homelessness issue, a panel discussion will take place during the event. This will provide an opportunity for attendees to learn more about the ongoing challenges of homelessness in Suffolk and hear from experts and local advocates on how they can contribute to the cause. The discussion will focus on homelessness in the county town and explore practical ways to support those who are struggling.

The Stadium Sleepout is an exciting and meaningful event for Ipswich Town fans and the local community. By participating, fans not only get a unique chance to sleep at the iconic Portman Road but also contribute to the fight against homelessness in Suffolk. It’s an opportunity to come together for a good cause, support vulnerable individuals, and raise awareness of the pressing issue of homelessness.

If you’re passionate about making a difference in your community and want to support those who are most in need, this event is an excellent way to get involved. Whether you’re a lifelong Ipswich Town supporter or simply someone who wants to help those facing homelessness, this sleepout provides a memorable and impactful way to give back.

So, grab your sleeping bag, gather your friends and family, and sign up for the Stadium Sleepout at Portman Road. Let’s come together to make a difference and show the strength of the Ipswich Town community in supporting those who need it the most.
