CONFIRMED “Leeds United Set to Sign Fresh Striker – Sky Sports Exclusive

January 21, 2025

Leeds United are reportedly considering making a move for 23-year-old French centre-forward Willem Geubbels, currently playing for Swiss club FC St. Gallen, during the upcoming winter transfer window. According to Lyall Thomas, the journalist shared this development via Sky Sports’ live transfer blog on January 21st, 2025. The Whites are contemplating a loan deal for the forward as part of their efforts to strengthen their attacking options for the second half of the season.

While Leeds United already have several strikers in their ranks, including Joel Piroe, Mateo Joseph, and Patrick Bamford, manager Daniel Farke is apparently keen on adding more firepower to his squad as he aims to lead Leeds back to the Premier League. Piroe, who has been Farke’s first-choice striker, has been solid in attack but has struggled with consistency in recent weeks. The Dutchman has scored just three goals in his last ten Championship appearances, with two of those coming in the 2-0 win against Stoke City on Boxing Day. Despite his contribution to the team, Farke appears to be seeking additional options up front, particularly a centre-forward who can provide more frequent goalscoring contributions to boost Leeds’ promotion push.

Geubbels, who is currently enjoying a strong season with FC St. Gallen, has caught the attention of several clubs with his performances. He has scored six goals and registered two assists in 13 league appearances this season, while also finding the back of the net three times in other competitions. His form has made him an attractive target for Leeds United, who are looking to add depth to their squad in the attacking department.

However, Leeds are not the only club interested in Geubbels. Championship rivals Norwich City and West Bromwich Albion are also monitoring the French forward, and both clubs could be looking to secure his services for the remainder of the season. This could set up a competitive race for Geubbels’ signature, with several teams vying for the opportunity to bring him to their respective clubs.

The potential addition of Geubbels would add a dynamic option to Leeds’ attacking line. His versatility and goalscoring ability could provide valuable depth for Farke, who is eager to ensure that his squad is well-equipped for the challenges ahead as Leeds continue their pursuit of promotion to the Premier League. As the winter transfer window progresses, it remains to be seen whether Leeds United will step up their interest in Geubbels and push for a deal to bring the French striker to Elland Road for the second half of the 2024/25 season.
