Jarrod Bowen Highlights Dressing Room Unity as West Ham’s Revival Gathers Pace
There has been a noticeable shift at West Ham United in recent weeks — not just in results, but in spirit. According to club captain Jarrod Bowen, the transformation starts behind the scenes.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Bowen pointed to renewed unity and accountability within the dressing room as key drivers of the Hammers’ recent improvement.
“We’ve certainly got enough, not just talking about quality, but talking about characters and people who are grabbing each other by the scruff of the neck when times are tough,” Bowen said.
“It needs to be like that, and that’s certainly a pleasing thing in a changing room, when you can look at your teammate next to you and go, yeah, he’s got my back and I’ve got his back.”
While no captain is likely to publicly admit when morale is low, Bowen’s words strongly suggest that things have improved internally. Earlier this month, Tomas Soucek revealed the squad had held honest talks within the dressing room about turning their season around. Those conversations appear to have sparked a reset in mindset.
The atmosphere at Rush Green now seems more focused and aligned, with players accepting collective responsibility for results. That renewed togetherness is beginning to show on the pitch.
At one stage this season, Premier League survival looked uncertain. Performances lacked cohesion, confidence dipped, and belief seemed fragile. Now, however, there is greater intensity, improved organisation, and clearer structure in the team’s displays.
Much of that shift has been credited to manager Nuno Espirito Santo, who has worked to restore balance within the squad. Tactical tweaks have helped, but just as importantly, he has rebuilt harmony and trust among the players.
Without that spirit behind the scenes, it is difficult to imagine West Ham even dreaming of survival.
Alongside the improved unity, key signings have also made a difference. Axel Disasi, who arrived on loan from Chelsea, has quickly become an important figure in the back line.
Bowen has been impressed by Disasi’s impact. The defender has added physicality, composure, and leadership — qualities that were missing during tougher periods of the campaign. His presence has helped stabilise the defence and given the team a stronger foundation.
While Disasi’s long-term future remains uncertain, that is not the priority right now. The focus is firmly on securing Premier League safety, and his contribution has been crucial in that effort.
