Nottingham Forest’s global head of football, Edu, finds his position under renewed scrutiny amid a turbulent season at the City Ground. Appointed last summer after leaving Arsenal F.C., Edu was tasked with overseeing all football operations, from recruitment and squad strategy to player development, as part of owner Evangelos Marinakis’s vision for Forest.

The Brazilian’s arrival was originally hailed as a coup for Forest, bringing high-level experience from both his playing and executive career. Tasked with bridging operations across Marinakis’ European football network — which also includes Olympiacos F.C. and Rio Ave F.C. — Edu was expected to drive long-term stability and competitive progress.

Season of Turmoil

Instead, Forest have endured a turbulent campaign, with managerial instability at the heart of their struggles. A reported falling-out between Edu and Nuno Espirito Santo contributed to the Portuguese coach’s dismissal in September. Subsequent spells under Postecoglou and Dyche failed to provide the consistency required, leaving Vitor Pereira to navigate a club two points above the Premier League’s bottom three.

Despite these struggles, Pereira has enjoyed some European success, guiding Forest to the last 16 of the Europa League. However, league form remains a pressing concern, and Edu’s strategic input is being questioned as the Reds fight to secure safety in England’s top flight.
